Thanks for sign

To the editor:

Recently it was my great pleasure to dedicate the new “Welcome to Lansing” sign with many of the logos from organizations within the city.

Although many are listed, there are several not on the sign which are also ongoing, viable, vigorous organizations that contribute their efforts to the overall success of the community.

It was estimated that the logos represented on the sign comprise approximately 650 volunteers throughout the city. Each of the organizations contributes time, effort or money to the overall good of the community. Each of these organizations has a different mission, but each contributes to the overall welfare of the community in their own way.

A recent article in The Kansas City Star stated that Kansas City is 10th overall in volunteer efforts in the United States. It is my opinion that Lansing has the greatest group of volunteers in the area and therefore must rank “Number One” in the Kansas City area. There are numerous programs in the community that are totally operated by the volunteers. These programs are too numerous to mention but include activities for the young and old alike.

I would like to publicly express my thanks for those who made the sign possible.
