KDOT to add rumble strips to K-7 in Wyandotte, Leavenworth counties
April 10, 2008
Weather permitting, on Wednesday, April 16, a project will begin to install shoulder rumble strips along Kansas Highway 7 in Wyandotte County and U.S. Highway 73 in Leavenworth County.
Crews will begin rumble strip installation first in Wyandotte County on the four-lane section of K-7 between US-24/40 (State Avenue) and the Kansas River. Once K-7 is complete, crews will then move to US-73 in Leavenworth County to install the rumble strips between Gillman Road and Mary Street on the south end of Lansing. Work will take place each day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Crews will use a mobile equipment operation to mill rectangular rumble strips onto the outside shoulders of K-7 and US-73. The installation equipment will extend approximately two-feet into the driving lane, so drivers should use caution when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
Traffic will be directed through the work zone via signage. Drivers should expect minor delays and are advised to use alternate routes, if possible. Updated daily lane and ramp closure information for this installation project can be viewed online here.
Diamond Surface Inc. is the primary contractor on this rumble strip installation project with a total contract cost of $32,015. The scheduled completion date for this portion of the project is Friday, April 18, weather permitting.
