Have you ever gone to your doctor’s office and had a funny little clip put on the end of your finger?

I had this done recently and have had it done many times over the years during my leukemia check ups. Recently I finally asked what this devise was and its purpose. The nurse told me it is called a “Pulse Oximeter” and it measures the percentage of hemoglobin saturated with oxygen. This oxygen saturation is a measure of how much oxygen the blood is carrying as a percentage of the maximum it could carry.

The Pulse Oximeter passes two light rays (red and infrared) through the skin to measure the amount of oxygen in your blood. The Oximeter detects a slight change in color of the arterial blood caused by the beat of the heart when the blood in pushed in the finger. A fit healthy person should have oxygen saturation between 95% and 99%. If you ever have this procedure done on your finger, ask what your percentage is.

Every day I try to do something to improve my health. I have written before about deep-breathing exercises, which I do, and also how important it is to eat 20 percent acidic food and 80 percent alkaline food. For the last 12 years I have tried to study why I got three different types of cancer. When I found what a healthy person should be eating, I checked my PH balance and found by body was completely acidic. I also discovered that cancer can not live in an alkaline body but loves an acidic body. Also an acidic body does not absorb all the oxygen it needs. It’s a lot of work to stay healthy, but if you are having a health problem, get all the information you can. We have no choice about the genes that we inherit, but we can change our diet.

It is easy to get food charts that tell you what to eat. The hard part is actually doing it. Now I eat more fruits and vegetables. Good health to you.
