Students visit Exchange City
April 25, 2008
Students from Lansing Intermediate School visited Exchange City earlier this month.
These students prepared for their visit through four to six weeks of hands-on learning in their classroom.
Before visiting Exchange City, students created job resumes, interviewed for job positions, and developed business and marketing plans for their businesses.
At Exchange City, the students became Exchange City citizens that received paychecks and conducted business related to their chosen careers. Lansing citizens worked together to operate successful businesses in the bustling Exchange City economy.
Exchange City was built in 1980 to teach fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade students about the opportunities and responsibilities of citizens in the American free-enterprise system.
Exchange City is a model city made up of 14 businesses, including retail shops, government offices, media organizations, restaurant, technology center and more. The city comes to life when young people take on the roles of business people and civic leaders who work together to create a thriving metropolis. Entrepreneurial teams collaborate to plan business budgets, develop marketing plans, and provide goods and/services for the model city.
