April 28, 2008

A Lansing senior was one of 11 Kansas University student broadcasters honored with awards at the annual Kansas Association of Broadcasters ceremony this monthin Wichita.

Broadcasters from KJHK 90.7 FM, the student-run radio station at the University of Kansas, won 11 awards, including seven first-place honors,

Nicholas John Spacek, senior in English, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Spacek; Lansing High School, won an honorable mention for his undergraduate promotion announcement, "Sunglasses Halloween Spot."

The awards recognized outstanding student efforts in radio, television and Internet broadcasting.

"KJHK's students continue to grow the station's quality of programming year after year," said Tom Johnson, KJHK general manager and adviser. "KJHK's students take it upon themselves to make great radio happen every week, so it's not that surprising that this year's KAB awards recognized their outstanding contributions to student broadcasting."

KJHK began broadcasting from the KU campus in Lawrence in 1975. It is a division of Union Programs at the KU Memorial Unions, which reports to the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success.
