Quilts: The Fabric of Warmth will be the featured event from June 24 to Aug. 12 at the Leavenworth County Historical Society.

Quilting, or the stitching together of layers of padding and fabric, is as old as ancient Egypt, if not older. Whole cloth quilts were common trade goods in wealthy circles in Europe and Asia going back as far as the 15th century! However, quiltmaking did not become popular in the United States until after the Industrial Revolution.

From June 24 through Aug. 12, you can see beautifully crafted quilts from the Leavenworth County Historical Society's collection and from the community at the Carroll Mansion.

The museum is at 1128 Fifth Ave. and open from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The fee for the exhibit is $2 per person. Members of the Leavenworth County Historical Society get in free. For more information call (913) 682-7759.
