Flynn a champion of character
March 13, 2008
I am writing in response to your Feb. 14 column, “Freshmen are good, but Flynn still rules.” Thank you so much for the article on Nick Flynn. You are “spot on!”
Nick is a great wrestler, however, I would submit (from a coaching and parenting perspective) he is an even better leader and mentor.
As the coach of the Leavenworth County Spartans (the club team Nick wrestles for), I can always count on him to set the example for our younger kids. That is both on and off the mat. He epitomizes everything you want in a wrestler: great work ethic, discipline, sportsmanship, humility, etc. He does a fantastic job of using these qualities to set a very positive example for our younger wrestlers. Nick always takes the time to work with our younger kids and to talk with them when he sees them in public.
As a father, I’ve seen Nick be a fantastic role model for my 8-year-old son Brock.
The best way for me to sum up how much I like and respect Nick Flynn is this: He is the kind of young man that I hope my son becomes and the kind of young man that my daughter marries. As a father and a coach, I cannot think of a better way to summarize what I think of Nick Flynn. I know for a fact that there are about 50 to100 other wrestling families in our community that feel the same way.

What are you looking forward to most with the warming weather this spring?
Just getting out of the house and playing with the kids.
