The city of Lansing wants your junk - but only if you have a driver's license to prove you live in the city limits.

The city will stage its annual spring cleanup from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5, at the Leavenworth County Solid Waste Transfer Station/ Recycling Center on Gilman Road.

Residents can dispose of standard waste, tires, yard waste, tree and brush waste, old appliances, metal items, and construction and demolition waste. New this year is the ability to dropoff electronic equipment for recycling, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday only. R-3 Technology, Shawnee, is providing the electronics recycling service.

Residents also can dispose of household hazardous waste, including paint and thinner; oil and other automotive products; pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and other yard products; household cleaning products; and batteries.

Burn barrels nearing the end of their usefulness also can be dropped off. Organizers ask that the barrel residue be placed in a plastic bag with its contents watered down, and all of the contents then placed in a cardboard box.

Those who are elderly or physically unable to make it to the transfer station for the cleanup can call City Hall, 727-3233to make an appointment for city staffers to pick up items for the cleanup.

Those items will be picked up on Friday, April 4.
