1938-2008
David “Mad Dog” L. Shanks, 69, of Lansing, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Weston, Mo., the son of Virgil and Merriam (Farmer) Shanks.
After graduation from high school, Dave served in the Air National Guard. After discharge, he married Judy Childs. He later married Mary McBroom.
Dave is survived by his children, Robert “Boomer” Shanks and Jenifer Mittelstaedt of Gardner; a step-son Todd (Julie) McBroom of Lansing; two sisters, Margaret Bishop and Carol Schreifels; a brother, Ed “Buck” Shanks; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Herman Shanks and Jackie Kirschbaum.
Dave worked in sales most of his life. He worked at Rusty Eck Ford for 13 years and was currently employed at Olathe Ford where he has worked for the past 18 years.
He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He especially enjoyed spending time with two of his grandchildren, Cade and Kenna Mittelstaedt.
A memorial visitation was held Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent at http://www.leintzfh.com.
