Shoppers peruse yard sale items Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Church, 109 Ida St. The event raised $2,572 toward hurricane relief through Catholic Relief Services. The Lansing Historical Society had its first yard sale the same day, which pulled in about $500. That money will go to the general fund for the Lansing Historical Museum.
Steve Fitzgerald, an unsuccessful candidate for the Kansas Senate in 2004, talks at The American Dream Express tour stop in Leavenworth. The 23-stop statewide tour, which promoted a Taxpayer's Bill of Rights for Kansas, ended Friday in Leavenworth. Among those at the tour stop, at Fitzgerald's immediate right, are Alan Cobb, Kansas director of Americans for Prosperity, and John Bradford, organizer of the Lansing chapter of Americans for Prosperity.

Lansing teachers and administrators meet with principals from Kaifeng No. 5 Middle School and a translator Wednesday night. Lansing is starting an exchange program with the Chinese school. The first group of students from Lansing will go to Kaifeng in March. Seniors Casey Welch and Lauren Griffen, both members of the LHS varsity volleyball team, told the football team it was their turn to defeat Immaculata. The volleyball team swept the Raiders in a match earlier this season.
The LHS football team gathers around coach Bill Pekarek at the bonfire. Pekarek said this year might be the last for the Lions to play the Immaculata Raiders because both schools were changing size. The team also announced that it would guarantee a win on Saturday.
