Brian Jones and Tommy Corum let their potato-and-cherry-tomato car slide down the ramp. Cars with cherry tomato wheels didn't fare as well as their makers had hoped; this one went only 5 feet, 4 inches, the shortest distance in the class.
The building at 501 N. Main St. is shuttered. The 7-Eleven store that had occupied the site since 1978 closed its doors Tuesday. Corporate officials attributed the closing to the amount of property the site will lose to a widening project on Main Street that will begin later this year. Another business down the road, Babe and Grayce's Antiquables, is trying to relocate because of the impact of the widening on its current building.
